V/line customers only can buy tickets from the train conductors or from bus driver if they can't get a ticket before hand for example from a ticket machine or from at manned station.
it is an offence to travel without a valid ticket and passengers who do so risk being fined by DOI.
If travelling from an unmanned station it ok to buy a ticket from a train conductor or from the bus driver, note you only can buy peak or off peak daily and single tickets from these people.

V/Line is a regional passenger train and coach service in country Victoria.
V/Line operates to a total of 82 regional stations on 7 railway lines across Victoria.
It was created after the split-up of Vic-Rail in 1983 and is currently wholly owned by the State Government of Victoria.
V/Line operates trains and coaches throughout Victoria and interstate.
V/Line's train network consists of five main line services running from Melbourne:
* Eastern Region - Bairnsdale Line
* Western Region - Ararat Line
* Southwest Region - Warrnambool Line
* North East Region - Albury and Shepparton Lines
* Northern Region - Swan Hill and Echuca Lines
Major cities along the lines are Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Seymour and Traralgon. Many trains and coach service terminate at these locations.
